Updating post from Reddit.
I move out this weekend and I thought it'd matched the paint correctly to cover a chip of the paint. Turns out I didn't unfortunately. Will this affect my deposit or should I be okay?
The deposit scheme wouldn't award any damages for something like this
This is fair wear and tear
It is not fair wear and tear.
A paint chip is FWT, a bad repair job is not*
...*depending on how old the paint job is and the length of the tenancy
God, I wish my tenants cared that much...
If this were the only mark, I'd just chalk it up to wear and tear. If the place were a sty, I'd be charging to repaint the wall.
To be fair, that paint doesn't match, and the landlord will probably need to repaint the wall if they want it pristine for the next tenant. Whether they charge you for it really depends on your relationship with them
I've had a good relationship with them and it's the only mark on the walls, I've left some wine and a card to say thank you.
The lack of banana is confusing 😉 (sorry, I'm a member of DMC)
In general from experience, the deposit scheme would not give anything for this.
As above I wish our tenants cared this much, but for a few holes we wouldn't chase in any event as to us, tenants have the right to make our investment their home within reason. Our tenants are mainly long standing, making this even more important.
That first sentence was very dull
Use a magic sponge to blend the paint in. Its a very fine abrasive that takes some of the existing paint and will spread it over the new. I did this on my last tenancy to cover holes after a touch of filler.
Using a disposable lighter for scale, I hope this is done in irony 😅
I use it for tea lights for my wax melter 🤣 I have just realised how that looks now
I think it’s a lighter
I wouldn't notice that, let alone charge you for it! Next time just leave the chip though. You'll never match paint colours so it's best to just leave the chip there and then repaint the whole wall when it needs doing.
The deposit scheme won't award any damage either.
Difficult to know without knowing how long since last decorated.
Yes hang in stuff on the wall is a totally normal thing to do it your own home. I hate when it on a lease!! Very thought for you tho
It’s fine don’t worry
How do you get the wrong ‘Landlord White’?
Yes. Paint does chip, and you do get the occasional knock or hole that needs filling in (pictures, shelves, and tv's are the biggest culprit).
No its a purple lighter
Should be fine.
Make the hole bigger then take another photo. Or even better, remove the contents in the hole and tell the tenant deposit scheme that you don’t accept toothpaste as wall filler LOL
Found the reason people hate landlords
No that’s a lighter
