does this count as wear and tear

I’m a student renting for the first time in london and my contract is about to end. I didn’t notice till now that the paint on the door near the door frame chipped and the picture makes it look smaller than it is. I didn’t do anything to cause the chipping and i believe it’s from the rubbing against the door frame. doesn’t this count as normal wear and tear and will i get my deposit back?

It's clearly not something that you have any control over and has been caused by them, so you are fine.

Too many coats of paint building up so now it rubs when the door is closed.

Yes it’s wear and tear.

Look at it this way - it’s nothing the tenant did

I mean....should they really have been opening and closing this door? Sounds like open and shut case of the tenant being at fault.

TBF I didn’t realise this was a tenant asking. I was like what sort of LL doesn’t understand this is W&T. Then I re-read it and realised it student so likely didn’t know better

No. You now owe your landlord £8,000.

OBVIOUSLY it is wear and tear.

Hi friend, sorry that everyone else is being mean/sarcastic. Yes you are right it's wear and tear and you should not be charged for remediating this. This is wholly the landlord's fault for not fitting the door properly or over painting the door/frame.
