Apologies if this isn’t the correct place for this post.
I moved out of a property a month ago. My landlord and I agreed on the deductions and they have my details to return the deposit. They’ve been chased numerous times about returning the deposit and haven’t done so yet.
Anyone have any advice in regard to this?
You should be able to initiate the return of the deposit on your end (presuming it was protected with one of the three govt. approved agencies?). When requesting the deposit return can specify deductions agreed and amount to be returned to you. Hopefully it will prompt landlord to respond but then at least if they still don’t reply you can go through statutory declaration process.
There are 3 deposit schemes and you can check if yours is protected under them online for free in minutes. I wonder if your landlord is stalling because they’ve spent it…… If they didn’t protect it, you can serve them a legal notice requesting upto 3 times the amount of the deposit or you will take them to court. I did this, my landlord was furious, and I came away rather well off. They will fold rather than go to court.
