Great for when properties are being refurbished.
And holiday homes, in between tenants.
The fixed costs are just moved onto the variable rate.
The costs would be moved onto every rate.
Sounds like a great plan to me.
If you have plenty of money it won't make the slightest bit of difference but if you're just scraping by it will be a huge benefit.
Can’t see how? Those scraping by will be still using a fair amount of energy, probably the average. You’ll need to be using something like 80% less than the average person to actually be better off without a standing charge. The ones that will benefit won’t be elderly or those scraping by but those with vacant property.
You're underestimating how little the average house uses compared to bigger buildings and industry.
There is nothing more heartbreaking than counting coppers to your next pay day and seeing your electricity meter keep taking money off you even when you're barely using anything at all.
Some people just can't afford it.
Zero standing charge won’t change that.
Not paying anything when you're not using energy seems like basic common sense to me.
It will absolutely and obviously change that.
Companies are obliged to wipe standing charges on zero use properties anyway. I think what the other dude is saying is, for a tariff to have zero standing charge, the supplier will 100% add this into how they bill you, just bundled to the price per kWh.
Of course they will, that's my whole point.
Did they think I was arguing for the cost to disappear into a black hole, I was not. While that would be nice that's not the way the world works unfortunately.
We're on the same page. As for not paying for no usage, that's already an OFGEM expectation for suppliers, you can't be billed for standing charges when there's no usage. Sadly, I don't think this change is intended for anyone other than landlords with property portfolios to reduce their admin, because ultimately consumers will still bare the brunt of these energy companies wanting exponential profit growth.
That’s about the only good thing with the Utilita prepay meter tariffs!
But more cost to whoever actually uses the electric/gas?
As I said “about the only good thing”… Overall value, ability to contact a person or get a faulty meter replaced when it double charges… ever getting a refund from them…not so good!
As it should be... 😅 pay to play my guy
